LocusviewTRACE

AI-Enabled Material Traceability

Background

Operators must maintain Material Test Reports (MTRs), Certificates of Compliance (COCs), and other similar traceability documents to meet regulatory requirements for traceable, verifiable, and complete records. While the general content of test reports is governed by API 5L and similar component standards, the data in the test reports is unstructured and inconsistent, and typically delivered as paper or PDF documents.

Current manual traceability practices are labor-intensive and error-prone. Field engineers must manually organize and verify unstructured data from various suppliers, often leading to "quarantine piles" and project delays. During close-out, compliance teams must sift through hundreds of pages to validate attributes against regulatory standards. This inefficiency risks unapproved materials entering service, leading to safety hazards and costly post-installation replacements.

To address the risks and limitations of current material traceability practices, API Recommended Practice 5MT was developed and published in 2021. While this provided a standardized data model for digital MTRs, implementation has been limited. It requires manufacturers to modify IT systems to deliver MTRs in the standard format, a costly and time/resource-intensive process.

Real AI Solving Real Industry Problems

LocusviewTRACE (TRACE) was developed to provide the industry with standardized digital test reports to automate material traceability and verification in real-time in the field and during project close-out. AI provides the intelligence to convert unstructured MTR data into structured digital datasets - without the need for manufacturers to modify existing IT systems.

TRACE enables manufacturers, distributors, and service providers to upload documents to the TRACE portal in their original format. Leveraging a trained AI model, critical data is automatically extracted from test reports and mapped to the API 5MT data model. The digital MTR data is then available to automate various construction and engineering workflows, including intake validation, inspection, and TVC verification.

Real-time Validation

LocusviewTRACE features an integrated workflow that connects traceability documentation directly to the physical asset.

Receiving

During receiving, materials are linked and validated against their traceability documents in the TRACE portal by scanning a QR code, or by manually entering the traceability ID (heat number, serial number, etc.).

Field Validation

Field crews scan the QR code on the pipe or component and perform real-time validation that the required traceability documents have been uploaded to the TRACE platform.

Automated Verification

Engineers can use the structured, digital MTR data to automate routine TVC verification. Official PDF MTRs can then be downloaded from TRACE for storage in a company system of record.

Key Features

AI-Powered Data Extraction

Automatically pull traceability IDs and material properties from MTRs and COCs to reduce manual entry.

Bulk Document Upload

Streamline the submission of large volumes of traceability records from multiple distributors and manufacturers.

Mobile Barcode Scanning

Enable real-time asset validation in the field via mobile app to confirm traceability compliance instantly.

Web-Based Validation

Provide back-office teams with a powerful interface to review, approve, and manage documentation.

The Future of Traceability

LocusviewTRACE represents the next generation of compliance management. By automating the exchange of TVC (Traceable, Verifiable, and Complete) data, operators can move away from time-intensive manual processes and toward a digitized, secure, and reliable asset management strategy. LocusviewTRACE is transforming how the industry handles material records, ensuring safety and efficiency from the warehouse to the trench.
